KEALAIKAHIKI:
Voyaging Afar to Awaken Hawaiʻi Within
What if your classroom stretched across the Pacific?
Before representing Kamehameha Schools at the INIHKD 2026 RIEL for Future Generations Youth Forum in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, selected haumāna will participate in an intensive one-week ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi immersion designed to prepare them as Alaukawai co-researchers, cultural ambassadors.
Using the ʻŌiwi Edge Innovation Process, you'll investigate a question that matters deeply to our kauhale: What helps a language flourish?
Through collaborative inquiry, cultural preparation, and meaningful use of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, you will:
-
Strengthen your ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi through authentic communication
-
Learn the ʻŌiwi Edge Innovation Process as a youth researcher
-
Explore how Indigenous communities sustain and revitalize their languages
-
Prepare to represent Hawaiʻi alongside Indigenous youth from across Oceania
Then you'll put it all into practice in Rarotonga.
Because when Indigenous youth gather across Moananuiākea, we aren't meeting for the first time. We're remembering that we've always been connected.
