ʻĀina Intelligence Lab Immersives
with Daniel Matsui
The ʻĀina Intelligence Lab is a continuation experience for a select cohort of haumāna who completed their first cycle of ʻāina-based technology research over the summer. This fall, they return — not to learn from scratch, but to build something real.
Working alongside Senior Compute Engineer at CVS Health, Daniel Matsui and guided by the ʻŌiwi Edge Innovation Process, this cohort is designing and launching software tools built to serve real needs across our kula and community. Their work this cycle is practical, purposeful, and community-facing — built by ʻŌiwi students, for the people and places they care about most.
This experience is closed to new participants. Interested in future cycles? Stay connected with Hālau Kupukupu.

Daniel Matsui
Senior Compute Engineer | AI Systems Expert | Automation Engineer
Daniel is a Senior Computer Engineer at CVS Health, where he leads the integration of AI chat agents, coding agents, and enterprise automation into complex technology systems operating across multiple data centers and cloud providers. His work focuses on using AI to improve efficiency, accelerate technical development, and support secure, reliable systems used in financial, health, and prescription operations.
Daniel brings extensive experience in programming, information technology, and systems security. He has developed applications using Perl, Python, and Java and has spent more than 20 years designing and supporting systems that must remain secure, available, and dependable.
His work with AI extends beyond enterprise systems. Daniel builds and operates locally hosted AI models, experiments with emerging open models, and develops connected AI tools that support coding, cybersecurity, research, network management, and smart devices. This hands-on experimentation keeps him close to the rapidly changing ways AI can be used to solve practical problems.
Daniel brings deep technical expertise and a builder’s mindset to the ʻĀina Intelligence Lab, helping haumāna move beyond using AI as a source of information and begin using it to design, develop, and improve functional software tools.
